The Foundation Stage - 3-5 years.Junior-Kindergarten
Children are introduced to a range of pre reading, writing and number activities.
The emphasis is on learning for meaning and enjoyment and we very much believe
that children learn best through playing, investigating and doing. Children
are introduced to Letterland and Jolly Phonics songs, games and rhymes. By the
end of JK, most children are familiar with letter sounds, are able to recognize
and write the symbol for their name and in some cases write their whole name,
count with understanding and to recognize that numbers are used to represent
their counting.
A main component of the JK school day is the plan, do, review approach adapted from the high scope curriculum. PLAN DO REVIEW
All children should bring with them plenty of water to drink, a healthy snack including at least one serving of fruit and vegetables and a packed lunch if staying all day. They should also bring a change of clothes. Children should not bring candies, chocolate, sodas to school and are discouraged from bringing any “junk food”
