The Early Years Foundation Stage - 3-5 years.

Our Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten programmes incorporate a combination of the English Early Years Foundation Stage and High Scope curriculums and adopts a ‘play-based’ approach to learning. It is our aim that our programme will encourage creativity, curiosity, discovery, understanding and a love of learning. The classrooms are set up with a variety of inviting centres and children are encouraged to visit these throughout the day.

Curriculum and Educational Programmes

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The philosophy underpinning the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is that learning should be carefully planned and structured, with an emphasis on skills and processes being introduced through activities that are fun, relevant and motivating for each child.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and Educational Programmes are organised into the following six areas of learning:

· Personal, social and emotional development
· Communication, language and literacy
· Mathematical development
· Development of knowledge and understanding of the world
· Physical development
· Creative development.

Each learning area has Early Learning Goals. These set out the skills, understanding, knowledge and attitudes we hope children will reach or exceed by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage, in Kindergarten (by 5 years old). The Goals also aim to make learning a fun and challenging experience, and specifically recognise the value of play.

Children will be at different stages of progress towards these Goals depending on their age and stage of development. Our teachers understand this and take it into account when planning activities.

High Scope

The High Scope educational approach views children as active learners, who learn best from activities they plan, carry out, and reflect upon. The role of the adult in the High/Scope approach is to plan activities based on the children's interest, facilitate learning through encouragement, and engage in positive adult-child interaction strategies.

These are the key experiences of the High Scope curriculum:

·Creative Representation
·Language and Literacy
·Initiative and Social Relations
·Movement
·Music
·Classification
·Seriation
·Number
·Space
·Time
