Learning beyond the classroom: Field Trips and Residentials
Field Trips
Classroom learning experiences are enhanced by numerous field trips which serve as extensions to the curriculum. We believe that providing learning beyond our classrooms enable us to provide rich, real-life experiences for all students. We feel that these integrate academic and social development by providing students with an opportunity to investigate and apply academic knowledge to the outside world as well as develop their personal and social skills, through a broad range of activities.
As part of their business studies and design technology lessons, students participate in the Christmas Arts Fair, raising money for their residential field trips.
In science, we visit the hospital and Fortis power station. We undertake a site survey of Cheshire Hall plantation to learn about the history of the TCI.
Opportunities to take our learning beyond the classroom are rich and varied.
Residential Trips
Overnight and residential trips provide amazing opportunities to develop independence and self-confidence, while creating memories that can last a lifetime. Our residential trips offer new experiences for all students, as they share in their learning and personal development with their peers.
In Year 7, our students take an overnight trip to Grand Turk and Salt Cay to have an immersive experience studying the Turks & Caicos Salt Indursty. We visit the historic salinas, the TCI Naitonal Museum and walk the streets of Grand Turk to see the historic houses built with riches from the Salt Industry.
In Year 8 we head on a true wilderness adventure to the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Over 5 nights, students esperience kayaking, climbing, hiking, orienteering and campfires in the beautiful surrounds of the pine forests of Camp Echo Lake. This trip is truly empowering for our Year 8 class, as we fly overseas on an adventure of a lifetime!
